It's probably a tool that's more useful for beginners than for experts, but as a WordPress expert I'm just tired of having to manage my local environments. Local takes a lot of the pain out of managing separate WordPress development sites. Since being bought, the product has actually gotten better and their customer service is great.
Local used to be called PressMatic, until it was bought by Flywheel. Local is free, but they have a premium service which ties into their deployment service as an addon. Most people don't, and if you do, you probably know enough about virtualization to know why Local will have an issue with Hyper-V, as most virtualization stacks also do. There's one caveat, Local by Flywheel will not work if you have Hyper-V enabled on Windows 10. Yes, Local does most of the work for you which some developers might take issue with, but these days I dont want to fight with my environment on my machine, and with WordPRess, I'm typically not doing anything that requires a specific server setup so whatevr works on my local environment typically always works on remote.

I've been a WordPress developer for 10 years, used just about everything for setting up WP environments, from manual setups with WAMP/LAMP/MAMP, to Docker, to VVV and Vagrant, and everything in between. Local, in general, is really excellent for local WordPress development. XAMPP server is one approach if you want to learn some about the environmental setup, but if you want to avoid all of that, I'd suggest using Local by Flywheel. This is because the majority of spam posts are coming from brand new users who have not read the posting rules listed above.
